PINKTOBER Returns
Pinktober is back and was it just me or did anyone else think that this week all of the games around the league were played with greater passion and intensity this week compared to the first four weeks?
Maybe it was the case, maybe I am just babbling like a mad man but either way I thoroughly enjoyed this week of games more so than usual. I think it also helps that there were just some mind blowing that left my jaw on the floor but more about them later!
Without further adieu the first game I want to talk about this week is the battle of Texas between the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys who are billed as America’s team surely didn’t want to be beaten by their poor cousins from across the state. Don’t get me wrong the Texans are far from poor but it was the best analogy I could come up with!
The game itself started in an unusual fashion with neither team managing to score for the first two quarters until Dan Bailey kicked a 33 yard field goal for the cowboys with just 11 seconds left in the half.
Dallas began the third quarter with a drive that really did not move anywhere and things got worse for them as Houston running back Arian Foster started to take over the show accounting for 59 of the 71 yards on the Texans next drive which resulted in a 15 yard touchdown run by the man himself.
In true NFL fashion though, just when you think the Texans are starting to get a hold of the game, Tony Romo escapes the grasp of JJ Watt to throw a 43 yard bomb to Terrence Williams for the touchdown. The score then remained at 10 - 7 to Dallas until halfway through the fourth quarter when they increased their lead to 17 - 7 courtesy of a two yard touchdown pass from Romo to Dez Bryant.
Again just when the game looked done in favour of Dallas this time, Houston managed to come back and tie the game with another touchdown by Arian Foster in the closing minute of the game forcing overtime.
Houston got the ball first in the extra period but were unable to move the ball anywhere and so Dallas took over needing only a field goal to take the victory. What followed was for me one of the catches of the day as Dez Bryant hauled in a 37 yard pass from Romo over a defenders back which led to the game winning kick from Dan Bailey. Another fascinating game for me this week was the matchup between the Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans. Anyone who listens to the podcast will know that I am developing a soft spot for the Cleveland Browns this year, mainly because their head coach Mike Pettine was out defensive coordinator last year. Once a Bill, always a member of the #Billsmafia family in my eyes and I wish him every success.
Back to the game itself and instead of listening to me babble on about it why not click on the picture below to see the highlights from this game:
I move on now to a game that involved one of Cleveland’s biggest rivals the Baltimore Ravens as they took on the Indianapolis Colts. The game started just about as intense as any game I have seen and it truly was all being left out on the field!
On their first drive the Colts took the ball deep into Baltimore territory only to be stopped on fourth and one by a Baltimore defence that is starting to look more and more like that from when the great Mr Ray Lewis used to play.
Unfortunately despite the great play from the defence, the Ravens offense coughed up the ball on the next play due to an uncharacteristic fumble from Steve Smith Sr. After the last time out, the Colts settled for a field goal after being stopped by the Baltimore defence. In fact both defences were really playing well as the score at halftime was only 6 -3 to the Indianapolis Colts.
This week I feel that instead of trying to get a feel for the game from me, you need to check out the highlights of the game by clicking on the picture below:

I wanted to finish off this week by looking at some of the premier receivers in the league and also to highlight some of the breathtaking catches from week five. The first receiver we will be looking at is Dez Bryant of the Dallas Cowboys. Now you saw in the earlier highlight clip his amazing catch from this week against the Texans in a key situation so instead of this weeks catch, check out some of his career highlights below:
I'm sure you can all see from that why I think he is one of the best receivers in the game and let’s not also forget that in wearing the number 88 shirt for Dallas he had a lot to live up to as it used to worn by hall of fame inductee Michael Irvin. For those that remember how great Michael was and also for those who may not know who is check out some of his career highlights below:
We move on now to one of my own personal favourite receivers at the moment and that is Julio Jones of the Atlanta Falcons. It is rare to go a single week without seeing a fantastic catch by Julio. He has only been in the league for a few years now and he is quickly shaping up to be a future hall of fame receiver if he keep this up. Check out his unbelievable catch from this week by clicking his picture below:
Finally it would not be right to talk about premier receivers without mentioning the great Calvin Johnson aka ‘Megatron’. Words cannot describe just how good he is so sit back relax and enjoy some of his highlights:
Okay so that wraps it up from me for another week football fans so until next time stay safe, take care and ‘Thanks for Stopping By’.
