Week 10 began with quite the bang as within the first 5 – 10 minutes of actual time we had four turnovers! The New York Giants fumbled their opening kickoff return against the Oakland Raiders, Chris Johnson fumbled against the Jacksonville Jaguars putting them in a great position to get the first score, Andrew Luck fumbled against the Rams and it was returned 45 yards for a touchdown and finally Jairus Byrd intercepted Ben Roethlisberger after the Pittsburgh Steelers had driven into the Buffalo half.
Now as you all know I am a big fan of defence and this was a great way for the week to begin, unfortunately though, football is a game of swings and roundabouts and with great play also comes big howlers!
Okay so let us get back to that St Louis vs Indianapolis game that started so well for the Rams as they took a fumble recovery back for seven points. The rest of the first quarter was littered with punts from both sides until finally at the beginning of the second quarter Zac Stacy was able to cap off a St Louis drive with a one yard touchdown run.
Next came the Tavon Austin show starting with an unbelievable punt return. Austin initially waved off his team mates from touching the ball and before the Colts coverage could get to him, he picked up the ball at his own two yard line and then ran up the side line for what was a 98 yard punt return. Tavon’s next score came on a go route which he took 57 yards for a touchdown, this now made the score 28 – 0 to the Rams and I couldn’t believe my eyes. At this point I text my young ‘Spitball’ co-host Marcus ‘Innuendo’ Henson to see what he made of this being a Rams fan himself, he replied it makes getting killed at fantasy football worth it! Check out the highlights of all Tavon's touchdowns by clicking the picture below:
Unfortunately for the Colts the second half started with a Rams score just like the first half as Tavon Austin got his final touchdown of the day on an 81 yard touchdown pass from Kellen Clemens. By the end of the game I think Andrew Luck and the rest of the Colts were glad of the final whistle as the Rams won 38 – 8.
Earlier in the blog I mentioned some howlers on defence and one of these occurred at the end of regulation time during the Baltimore vs Cincinnati game. With the last throw of the game Andy Dalton lobbed the ball into the endzone and after ricocheting off a couple of helmets, Baltimore defender James Ihedigbo tipped the ball up in the air for A J Green to catch the easiest of touchdown grabs to tie the game at 17 all. It’s best to see just how bad this was by checking out the highlight or low light if you’re a Ravens fan:
Luckily for Ravens they managed to pull themselves together in overtime and stop the Bengals from getting into scoring range. Following the stop the Ravens then moved the ball into field goal range and won the game with a Justin Tucker field goal. It was a close shave and I couldn’t imagine being James Ihedigbo in the locker room had the Ravens lost this game.
Before we move onto all the scores from week 10 I would like to say congratulations to all you Jacksonville Jaguars fans out there on your teams first win of the season this week against the Tennessee Titans. If you didn’t watch the game I think it is fair to say that this one was thanks to your defence forcing four turnovers, having three redzone stops and injuring their starting quarterback. The best of the turnovers for me was the strip fumble by Will Blackmon in the fourth quarter as he ripped the ball out of Fitzpatrick’s hands and took the ball back 21 yards for a touchdown. The NFC North is now shaping up to have a tasty run in to the end of the season with Chicago, Green Bay and Detroit separated by one win. Detroit have taken the early advantage and they could definitely win out their remaining games with the only hick up maybe coming on Thanksgiving as they take on the Green Bay Packers, having said that if Aaron Rodgers is still not back by that game you would have to give Detroit the edge.
Another couple of divisions that will be closely fought until the end are the NFC East and the AFC North. In the AFC North, the Bengals were the front runners but with the loss to Baltimore at the weekend it really opens the division. The AFC North currently stands as follows:
Cincinnati 6 – 4
Cleveland 4 – 5
Baltimore 4 – 5
Pittsburgh 3 – 6
In the next couple of weeks Cleveland have to play both the Bengals and Steelers and then their game of the season is also against the Steelers. My question for you all is who will finish out winners of the AFC North?

We finish this week with the mess that is the NFC East. Every team in this division has shown both promising signs and signs of utter chaos! At the moment they stand as follows:
Dallas 5 – 5
Philadelphia 5 -5
New York Giants 3 – 6
Washington 3 – 6
The Giants are now on a three game winning streak after their poor start to the season and in weeks 12 and 13 they play the Cowboys and Redskins and in week 17 they play the Redskins again. Philadelphia have been on a bit of role lately and Nick Foles has thrown 10 touchdowns in his last two games and he has also not thrown an interception all season. The Redskins and Cowboys don’t seem to be able to put a string of wins together and so my question for you is will this again be the year of Eli Manning and the Giants?
